A Little Bit Strange

Charity bit Jenny

Jenny bit a bug

The bug bit Susie

Then hid underneath the rug

Susie bit Jasper

Who sat upon a stool

The stool tipped over

Kept Jasper after school

Jasper bit his dog

Who blamed it on the cat

The cat bit our neighbor

Who believed it was a bat

The neighbor called the MD

The MD didn’t care

Then the neighbor bit the postman

On the derriere.

The postman went crazy

(we know they often do)

Bit a passing hobo

Who bit a bird or two

The birds bit an elephant

Who took it quite to heart

Now that you are listening

Here’s the funny part

The elephant bit a kid

Who was visiting the zoo

The police were called

And took an interview

The questioning went on

‘Til they solved the crime

Now Charity’s in shackles

Doing lots of time

The moral of this story

We’ll remember from this day

A little bit of Charity

Goes a long,long way!

  1. Hi. Just a stranger passing through here, really, as I buzz around the blogs that made it onto tonight’s WordPress humor feature page.

If I never come back this way, I’ll at least have stopped long enough to say that this poem is essentially one long, entertaining setup–and now that you are listening, here’s the complimentary part–for perhaps the “sillyhappiest” pun I’ve ever read.

    Charming. 🙂

  2. Just to let you know, I’ve chosen your “Little Bit Strange” as the Poem of the Week at Jingle Poetry blog. I loved it!

  3. I know Susan very very well . I’ve known her for years. Her first recorded poem was written at 3 as she sat on her swing on a windy day with a storm approaching:

“The tree holds the sun while the clouds have fun.”
    I was there!!!!!!!

  4. I love it when I find a kindred spirit in humorous poetry. I love this little story, and ironically was reminded of “Miss Susie Had A Steamboat” and now I see YOU are Miss Susie too!

I’m looking forward to more from you, and I hope you take a look at my blog as well. My limericks are usually the fun stuff, so just search that tag.

Welcome to the Jingle Poetry World!

  5. What a sweet and lovely story.. I liked reading it and it brought a smile on my face… which was frowning as I just watch a Hindi formula movie and had my mind numbed into coma, incapable of any thinking… your sweet little story got me out of inactivity…thanks for sharing.

  6. Oh Susan, this made me laugh and laugh. Quite like that old song, “The green grass grows all around” and the nursery rhyme about the house that Jack built, but with an original, contemporary spin.

My sister in law is a postal worker and she says she never saw anyone go nuts, but the numbers don’t support her, hee hee hee.

    Peace, Amy

Tell me something good...
